Hatarakimono Project

Made up of more than a hundred portraits of Japanese workers, this project documents and preserves one of the least publicized pillars of Japanese culture before it completely disappears from our modern society: respect for all types of trades as well as for the people who exercise them.

It took K-NARF more than a year to create this unprecedented collection of portraits; this will have also required the organization of thirty-four photo shoots realized through a portable studio to photograph the HATARAKIMONO one by one at their place of work. Each portrait has the particularity to be presented in triptych and to be made entirely by hand in the form of original TAPE-O-GRAPHIC prints, a process of neo-vintage photographic development developed by K-NARF there is a decade.
